One of the great joys of my life is teaching Spanish at St. Brigid School! Born and raised in Texas, I earned my B.A. in English in 1995 from the University of Texas at Austin, with minors in Spanish and History. In 1997, I earned my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, also from U.T. Austin. I then taught high school English in Houston for three years before returning to graduate school at the University of South Carolina, where I taught freshman composition. I am ABD (“all but dissertation”) for my Ph.D. in 19th-century British Literature.
I have been married to my husband, Kyle, for 26 years. He is an Air Force F-16 pilot and test pilot, and that is what brought us to WPAFB in 2009. And what a blessing that assignment was for us—for that’s when we found St. Brigid School! Both of my children attended St. Brigid, starting in Kindergarten, and both went on to graduate from Carroll High School. Our son is now a senior at the University of Dayton, beginning his student teaching in secondary social studies and history. Our daughter is now a sophomore at Penn State, studying meteorology. So much of their success and happiness they owe to their high-quality, whole-child education at St. Brigid School.
Having grown up in Texas, I studied Spanish in 7th-12th grades and became fluent. After teaching Spanish as a long-term substitute at Carroll High School, I was delighted to be asked to teach Spanish to 5th-8th graders at St. Brigid, beginning in 2024. In our Spanish classes, we focus on building vocabulary, on understanding grammar, and on recognizing connections to other foreign languages and especially to English. We also celebrate Spanish and Latino cultures and traditions. My goal is to lay a solid foundation of preparation for my students as they study Spanish in high school and beyond!
Through the years, I’ve been a volleyball mom, a soccer mom, a basketball mom, and a scouting mom. I’ve also been a Picture Lady art teacher at St. Brigid since 2010, coordinating the program since 2017. St. Brigid School really is a special community; I have always said that it is good for the whole family! I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
