Parents are required to attend a Baptism preparation session for their first child, and they are welcome to attend for others, if they so desire. This preparation program gives parents the opportunity to consider the meaning of their own faith, to ask questions, discuss how to share and pass on their faith to their child(ren), affirm the Church’s understanding of Baptism, and come to understand the elements of the Rite of Baptism itself. These Sacrament of Baptism preparation sessions are held in the Church on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm, with Deacon Mark Danis. Please call to schedule a preparation session as there are some months there are no couples to hold a session for. As you think about the baptism of your child, you might want to prayerfully begin to consider the following questions:
Parents should also give prayerful thought about whom they wish to be the Godparent(s) of their child. Godparent(s) should be committed Christians who are living their belief in Jesus. In accepting the responsibility of being a Godparent, the person is saying he/she wishes to support the growth of the child to full Christian adulthood in faith, and the parents in their role as Christian parents.
Godparent(s)must be at least 16 years old, and at least one of the Godparents must be a Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and regularly worships and participates in the church. One of the Godparents may be a member of another Christian faith.
